Capturing Asian Conceptions of Creative Thinking
Capturing Asian Conceptions of Creative Thinking is a research initiative and the first systematic study of its kind in Asia that explores how creative thinking is understood, nurtured, and implemented across diverse Asian cities. Hong Kong is kicking off this ground-up effort in May 2025 with Professor Anne Bamford OBE, the Director of the International Research Agency. The Hong Kong leg is supported by Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau’s Matching Grant Scheme.
By bridging Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) frameworks with the unique cultural realities of Asia, this project aims to document the rich, varied conceptions of creative thinking in the region. Through collaboration with schools, businesses and artists, the project will:
- Identify commonalities and unique cultural nuances in how creative thinking is defined and prioritised across at least six Asian cities;
- Examine the role of education systems, businesses, and creative industries in fostering creative thinking;
- Highlight the influence of traditional wisdom, cultural practices, and regional priorities;
- Develop a culturally informed definition of creative thinking tailored to Asia;
- Generate evidence for regional and international policy development, including contributions to the OECD and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) frameworks;
- Strengthen collaboration within the region and build a shared understanding of creative thinking; and
- Establish a replicable research methodology for exploring creative thinking in other cultural contexts.
We’d love to tell you more.
