SCOLAR English Alliance “From Page to Stage®” Programme 2018 – Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde

Man is not truly one, but truly two

After the tremendous success of Franky, a theatrical re-telling of Frankenstein in 2016, the Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection (AFTEC) will stage another re-imagined production,
Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, an exciting production inspired by The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, starting on March 1, 2018, with 28 shows at the Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre Theatre.

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a successful classic published in 1886 by Robert Louis Stevenson, which portrays how every individual has a duality of both benevolent and malevolent personalities, thoughts and feelings within them.

Inspired by this enthralling classic, Dr Vicki Ooi will present a powerful production showing the destruction that can be wrought when ambition goes unchecked by moral constraints and conscience. The play also presents a debate on how our personalities and moral compass were shaped. Does nature or nurture make us who we are?

The Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection (AFTEC) collaborates with The Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) in delivering the “From Page to Stage®” programme 2018 to secondary school students for SCOLAR English Alliance.

The “From Page to Stage®” programme is a comprehensive learning and participation English theatre education platform. This highly-acclaimed programme has entered its 7th year with over 160 performances with astounding success. Tailor made for local secondary school students, the programme is a fresh and unique educational adventure which benefited more than 76,000 secondary school students and teachers. Through high quality drama performances and thoughtfully designed pre- and post-performance workshops, the programme nurtures students’ interest in classic literature and widens their exposure to authentic use of the English language.
